Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

As the Holocaust recedes into history, responsibility for remembrance shifts to descendants, educators and museums. The talk explores intergenerational witnessing through Tali Nates, daughter of a survivor rescued by Oskar Schindler. Combining scholarship with family narrative, it examines how descendants inherit stories, silences, emotional imprints, and ethical obligations. Speaking from South Africa, a place at the margins of Holocaust history, the talk highlights overlooked narratives of survival, displacement, and postwar life and asking how remembrance can remain dynamic, relevant, and inclusive in the 21st century.

Tali is a historian who lectures internationally on Holocaust education, genocide prevention, reconciliation and human rights. She has published many articles and contributed chapters to several books, among them God, Faith & Identity from the Ashes: Reflections of Children and Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors (2015), Remembering the Holocaust in Educational Settings (2018), Conceptualizing Mass Violence, Representations, Recollections, and Reinterpretations (2021) and The Routledge Handbook of Memory Activism (2023). Tali has won many awards including the Kia Community Service Award (South Africa, 2015), the Gratias Agit Award (2020, Czech Republic), the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Award (2021), the Goethe Medal (2022, Germany) and the Secretary of State International Religious Freedom Award (2023, USA). She serves on many Advisory Boards including that of the Interdisciplinary Academic Journal of Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center and the Academic Advisory Group of the School of Social and Health Sciences, Monash University (IIEMSA), South Africa. Tali was one of the founders of the Holocaust and Tutsi Genocide Survivors groups in Johannesburg. Born to a family of Holocaust survivors, her father and uncle were saved by Oskar Schindler. The rest of the family was murdered.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether the group matches their needs and interest.

For process groups, if you are not a current or recent client, please make an appointment to get started and note your interest in group therapy. The field of Holocaust Studies is expanding and changing rapidly as the next generation of scholars adopt innovative methodologies, apply new technologies, and bring interdisciplinary approaches to examine neglected topics as well as to revisit debates once thought settled. Scholars are approaching the Holocaust, not only from the traditional fields of history, literature, religion and art, but also in forensic science, archaeology, anthropology, geography, criminology, medicine, musicology, museum studies and many others. This talk will point to some important directions in Holocaust Studies, while focusing primarily on how scholars are approaching the Holocaust from a global perspective.

Dr. Mark Celinscak is the Louis and Frances Blumkin Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the Executive Director of the Sam and Frances Fried Holocaust and Genocide Academy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is the author of the award-winning books, Kingdom of Night: Witnesses to the Holocaust and Distance from the Belsen Heap: Allied Forces and the Liberation of a Nazi Concentration Camp. He is also the co-editor of the recent volume, Global Approaches to the Holocaust: Memory, History, and Representation. He currently serves as co-chair of the Consortium of Higher Education Centers for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies.

DBT-U is an open, eight-week, hybrid process- and skills-based group for students to learn and develop coping skills and strategies to improve individual functioning. This group is specifically for clients who have difficulties in emotion regulation, interpersonal difficulties, and pattern of crisis. Group members learn topics related to mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness and communication strategies, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills in a structured and supportive learning environment. Each group consists of a brief mindfulness exercise, check-in/introductions, introduction of new skills, discussion/experiential practice and assignment of practice exercise and check-out.

Hybrid skills/process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Hybrid skills/process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day, though new skills and strategies are often a topic of discussion. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether the group matches their needs and interest.

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. SPARK Femmes is a supportive and nonjudgmental meeting place for woman/femmes who are questioning or struggling with the ways they engage with sex and/or pornography. This group will hold space for students to process their concerns, define healthy sex for themselves, and build tools to help navigate distress. Whether this is an issue that’s recently come up or is something you have navigated for a long time, this group can help meet you where you are.

Daily life is full of small nuances, and items and spaces serve as witness in all these settings of a most intimate kind. For example, a worn armchair is a remnant of the past because it holds memories of laughter and widespread secrets in a softly lit room with the setting sun casting its warm glow. A photograph array in the hallway serves as a space where presence and absence create a juxtaposition of meanings related to memories of our most profound kind. Held in everyday: Photographs of Memory and Trace, drawn from the Comer Collection explores how the ordinary scene in portraits commas interiors commas and landscapes is bound up with the memories lodged in the objects and spaces of daily life. Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Wooram Lee is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Penn State University. He received his B.Sc. and M.S. degrees from KAIST and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. From 2012 to 2015, he worked at Broadcom on multi-Gbps transceivers, and from 2015 to 2020, he was at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center focusing on high-performance mmWave phased array circuits. Prof. Lee’s work has been recognized with the IEEE RFIC Best Student Paper Award (2023, as faculty advisor), the IEEE RFIC Best Industry Paper Award (2019), and the IEEE Radar Conference Best Paper Award (2009). He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, and is a member of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium.

Abstract:

The mmWave and sub-THz spectrum (30–300 GHz) offers unprecedented opportunities for next-generation wireless communications and sensing. However, fully exploiting these frequencies remains challenging due to high path loss and the inherent limitations of silicon transistors. This talk highlights our recent innovations in mmWave-to-sub-THz RF signal processing in silicon, including calibration-free 140 GHz and 240 GHz phase shifters, compact high-power 140 GHz bi-directional amplifier for large-scale beamformers, and phased-array-inspired RF signal processors for ultrabroadband (>30 GHz) spectrum sensing.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

For example, a worn armchair is a remnant of the past because it holds memories of laughter and widespread secrets in a softly lit room with the setting sun casting its warm glow. A photograph array in the hallway serves as a space where presence and absence create a juxtaposition of meanings related to memories of our most profound kind. Held in everyday: Photographs of Memory and Trace, drawn from the Comer Collection explores how the ordinary scene in portraits commas interiors commas and landscapes is bound up with the memories lodged in the objects and spaces of daily life. Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

The Bass School Pop-Up Locker Exhibition is seeking proposals.

While lockers are typically used for storage, they also hold memories, stories, prized possessions, love letters (and break-up notes), trash, clothes, food — and sometimes art. The Locker Exhibition is a playful intervention within an architectural feature that largely goes unused. (It turns out art and technology students do not need as many lockers as were installed.) Yet their bright yellow color has made them iconic within the building.

The 2026 exhibition draws inspiration from bio-art, including the current SP/N Gallery exhibition, Organic Worlds: Symbiosis in Art, and Eduardo Kac’s field-defining project GFP Bunny (2000). Bio-art explores the power of human manipulation at the level of general biology. Kac’s Alba, a genetically modified glowing rabbit, has inspired cultural producers worldwide, from sitcoms such as The Big Bang Theory to novels by Margaret Atwood.

But just because we can manipulate genes, should we?

As society moves rapidly through social, political and scientific change, we ask: When does the unfamiliar become familiar? When is the unknown accepted? From artificial intelligence to vaccines for emerging pandemics, what are the implications of these evolving technologies? What should be subject to human manipulation — and what should be left to fate, faith or biology?

Every generation faces challenges and opportunities, but the pace of change today feels unprecedented. As the world evolves at an exponential rate, new possibilities emerge — many we are only beginning to understand. When change is the only constant, what is our next frontier?

Go far into the future or dive into the past. We invite artworks that explore change, discovery and how we confront what we do not yet know.

We welcome explorations of “change” and “unfamiliarity” in any medium that can be contained within a locker. The exhibition features invited artists and selected works from previous years alongside new locker installations created by UT Dallas students.

UT Dallas students enrolled in HONS 3123 serve as guest curators. They developed the theme, authored this call and will host the opening reception for all participants on March 25, 2026, at 1 p.m.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

Spatial omics technologies have opened new frontiers for understanding the molecular organization of tissues, yet major challenges remain in scalability, cross-sample alignment, and integration across resolutions and modalities. In this talk, I will present a series of data integration methods developed in my lab to address these challenges across samples, platforms, and molecular signals. I will introduce statistical method that learn biologically informed spatial domains, and deep learning methods that jointly learn spatial correspondence and shared representations across tissue sections, as well as uncertainty-aware contrastive models for integrating spatial multi-omics data across diverse modalities. These approaches enable robust alignment despite distortion and batch effects, preserve modality-specific biological signals, and scale to ultra–high-resolution datasets. Together, these methods uncover refined spatial domains, modality-specific regulatory programs, and regions of biological or technical heterogeneity. By combining scalability, generalizability, and interpretability, our goal is to build reliable computational foundations for spatial omics that accelerate biological discovery.

Daily life is full of small nuances, and items and spaces serve as witness in all these settings of a most intimate kind. For example, a worn armchair is a remnant of the past because it holds memories of laughter and widespread secrets in a softly lit room with the setting sun casting its warm glow. A photograph array in the hallway serves as a space where presence and absence create a juxtaposition of meanings related to memories of our most profound kind. Held in everyday: Photographs of Memory and Trace, drawn from the Comer Collection explores how the ordinary scene in portraits commas interiors commas and landscapes is bound up with the memories lodged in the objects and spaces of daily life. Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. We work in heat and cold, but will cancel in the case of extreme conditions. It is strongly recommended that you bring a snack and a large, filled water bottle. There is no potable water and there are no bathrooms at the Eco Hub. We also do not service trash so please plan accordingly.

If possible, please wear long pants that go past your ankle, closed-toe shoes that go to your ankle, and long, thick socks. Sunscreen and water are also required, as we do not provide them at the farm!

You do not need any prior experience and there is no orientation to attend a workday. We will review safety at the farm at the beginning of each workday.

Please park on campus and walk to Luna Farm, as there is limited parking at the farm. More information about transportation options can be found on the Luna Farm website linked above.

Eligibility
Submissions are open to all Bass School faculty and students, undergraduate and graduate. Films directed or produced by UTD students outside the Bass School are also eligible if the filmmaker has completed at least one film course offered by the Bass School. Collaborative projects qualify as long as the director or producer meets these criteria.

We accept short films in all genres, modes, and styles made in the past three years. Narrative, documentary, experimental, live action, animation, and hybrid work are all welcome. Maximum length is ten minutes including credits.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. No prior experience is required - just a passion for storytelling and a willingness to help create a fun and inclusive experience. This 7-week hybrid in-person and virtual workshop is designed for college students looking to strengthen their romantic relationships. Based on Dr. John Gottman’s The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, the workshop offers practical tools and evidence-based strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced in the context of college relationships. Each week, participants will explore a principle and learn skills to improve communication, manage conflict, build trust, and deepen connection – all in an engaging and supportive environment.

Whether you’re dating, engaged, in a long-term partnership, or looking to build important relationship skills for the future, this workshop provides a solid foundation for creating a healthy and lasting relationship during your college years and beyond. This workshop is affirming and inclusive of all types of relationships, LGBTQ+, and polyamory. People in relationships are welcome to attend together!

DBT-U is an open, eight-week, hybrid process- and skills-based group for students to learn and develop coping skills and strategies to improve individual functioning. This group is specifically for clients who have difficulties in emotion regulation, interpersonal difficulties, and pattern of crisis. Group members learn topics related to mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness and communication strategies, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills in a structured and supportive learning environment. Each group consists of a brief mindfulness exercise, check-in/introductions, introduction of new skills, discussion/experiential practice and assignment of practice exercise and check-out.

Hybrid skills/process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Hybrid skills/process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day, though new skills and strategies are often a topic of discussion. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether the group matches their needs and interest.

Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

This group will hold space for students to process their concerns, define healthy sex for themselves, and build tools to help navigate distress. Whether this is an issue that’s recently come up or is something you have navigated for a long time, this group can help meet you where you are.

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

Title: Haiman's Conjecture and Springer's Representations

Abstract: The chromatic polynomial of a graph admits a refinement called the chromatic quasisymmetric polynomial. For unit interval graphs, Shareshian–Wachs conjectured a startling positivity property for these polynomials; a limiting case, originally due to Stanley–Stembridge, was proven very recently in a major breakthrough by Tatsuyuki Hikita. At the same time, unit interval graphs are in bijection with 312-avoiding permutations; there is a further generalization of the Shareshian–Wachs conjecture, due to Haiman, involving certain characters of symmetric groups arising from the Kazhdan–Lusztig bases of the corresponding Hecke algebras. After reviewing all this history, we propose a uniform generalization of Haiman's conjecture to finite Weyl groups, resolving a question from his 1993 paper. The new conjecture involves objects from algebraic geometry: the intersection cohomology of closed Lusztig varieties and certain characters arising from Springer fibers. Generalizing work of Abreu–Nigro and Brosnan–Chow, we establish a formula for the intersection cohomology using Lusztig's exotic Fourier transform. This makes the conjecture checkable with the CHEVIE package for GAP3.

Title: Random Combinatorial Billiards and Stoned Exclusion Processes

Abstract: Combinatorial billiards concerns rigid and discretized billiard systems that can be modeled combinatorially or algebraically. I will introduce a random combinatorial billiard trajectory depending on some fixed probability p; when p tends to 0, it recovers Thomas Lam's reduced random walk. This random billiard trajectory can also be interpreted as a random growth process on core partitions. The analysis of the random billiard trajectory relies on new finite Markov chains called stoned exclusion processes, which are variants of certain interacting particle systems. These processes have remarkable stationary distributions determined by well-studied polynomials from algebraic combinatorics and symmetric function theory; it was previously an open problem to construct Markov chains with these stationary distributions.

Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Jie Gu is currently an associate professor in Northwestern University. He received his B.S. degree from Tsinghua University, M.S. degree from Texas A&M University and Ph.D. degree from University of Minnesota. From 2008 to 2010, he was an R&D engineer in Texas Instruments, Dallas, TX working on low voltage design and power management techniques for microprocessors in the smartphones. From 2011 to 2014, he was with Maxlinear developing mixed-signal broadband SoC chips. He joined ECE department of Northwestern University from 2015 with a research focus on novel circuit and architecture solutions for robust chip management and efficient AI accelerators.

Abstract:

Maintaining power integrity has become increasingly challenging in modern microprocessors and accelerators due to lower supply voltages, highly dynamic workloads and large variations from chip fabrication and package assembly. Conventional feedback-control based power management scheme is often limited by the slow response time of the power converters. To mitigate such a challenge, proactive power management techniques offer attractive merits, e.g. faster response time, stronger computing models for complex scenarios, and data-driven learning capability. In this talk, I will present our recent development of machine learning based proactive power management technique for supply droop mitigation. A special integrated buck converter is designed and controlled by a light-weight learning-enabled neural processing core for prediction and fast response to the upcoming workload induced droop events. Chip and package variations are also mitigated through the use of on-device transfer learning from the integrated neural processing core. A 28nm test chip is fabricated and tested to demonstrate the performance and energy benefit of the proposed proactive power management scheme.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. We work in heat and cold, but will cancel in the case of extreme conditions. It is strongly recommended that you bring a snack and a large, filled water bottle. There is no potable water and there are no bathrooms at the Eco Hub. We also do not service trash so please plan accordingly.

If possible, please wear long pants that go past your ankle, closed-toe shoes that go to your ankle, and long, thick socks. Sunscreen and water are also required, as we do not provide them at the farm!

You do not need any prior experience and there is no orientation to attend a workday. We will review safety at the farm at the beginning of each workday.

Please park on campus and walk to Luna Farm, as there is limited parking at the farm. More information about transportation options can be found on the Luna Farm website linked above.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

SPARK Femmes is a supportive and nonjudgmental meeting place for woman/femmes who are questioning or struggling with the ways they engage with sex and/or pornography. This group will hold space for students to process their concerns, define healthy sex for themselves, and build tools to help navigate distress. Whether this is an issue that’s recently come up or is something you have navigated for a long time, this group can help meet you where you are.

This 7-week hybrid in-person and virtual workshop is designed for college students looking to strengthen their romantic relationships. Based on Dr. John Gottman’s The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, the workshop offers practical tools and evidence-based strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced in the context of college relationships. Each week, participants will explore a principle and learn skills to improve communication, manage conflict, build trust, and deepen connection – all in an engaging and supportive environment.

Whether you’re dating, engaged, in a long-term partnership, or looking to build important relationship skills for the future, this workshop provides a solid foundation for creating a healthy and lasting relationship during your college years and beyond. This workshop is affirming and inclusive of all types of relationships, LGBTQ+, and polyamory. People in relationships are welcome to attend together!

DBT-U is an open, eight-week, hybrid process- and skills-based group for students to learn and develop coping skills and strategies to improve individual functioning. This group is specifically for clients who have difficulties in emotion regulation, interpersonal difficulties, and pattern of crisis. Group members learn topics related to mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness and communication strategies, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills in a structured and supportive learning environment. Each group consists of a brief mindfulness exercise, check-in/introductions, introduction of new skills, discussion/experiential practice and assignment of practice exercise and check-out.

Hybrid skills/process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Hybrid skills/process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day, though new skills and strategies are often a topic of discussion. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether the group matches their needs and interest.

For Hybrid skills/process groups, if you are not a current or recent client, please make an appointment to get started and note your interest in group therapy. You’ll complete intake paperwork and have a 30-minute “IC” (individual consultation) with one of our therapists, and then get scheduled for a brief screening meeting with the group’s leader.

Groundbreakers brings together artists who played with materiality, space, and performance in postwar Japan and Korea after the 1950s. Moving beyond the hand, some artists used unexpected parts of their bodies to make their marks: Shiraga painted with his feet and Matsutani used his mouth to create vinyl bubbles. By extension, their bodily performances became part of their art. The objects and paintings themselves are testaments to the ephemeral nature of their energetic performance.

Other artists of this period upended the implement of the brush by pouring directly onto the canvas or experimented further with materiality by using different mediums, such as tin. Proponents of three art movements—Mono-ha, Dansaekhwa, and Gutai—rigorously interrogated and explored artistic performances, playful use of materials, experimentations with new techniques, a commitment to direct gestures, and a reorientation of subject and object. Through it all, the very process and stages of presenting objects became as important as the final art form.

A common visual thread amongst these artists is a commitment to abstraction and minimalism. These art forms of painting, sound, and installation are meant to be participatory, expanding how the viewer interacts with works of art. Challenging traditional ideas of art, each object is a transformative site that discourages passive looking. In the case of Takamatsu’s Cube 6 + 3, which greets visitors at the entrance of the exhibition, the artist’s simple application of lines onto a three-dimensional cube alters our perception of space and depth.

Two contemporary artists, Tatsuo Miyajima and Do Ho Suh, are positioned as means to provoke a dialogue and conversation about the antecedents and legacy of performance art for contemporary artists and its twin accompaniment the viewer/participant.

This exhibition is organized by The University of Texas at Dallas in collaboration with The Dallas Museum of Art.

Learning to Heal from Trauma will introduce students to the impacts of trauma and to topics such as boundaries, power and control, healthy relationships, and self-compassion. From these topics, the group members will explore their own patterns of responding to trauma and begin to establish new ways of coping and begin/continue their process of healing.

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.

Sam Dalrymple is a Delhi-raised Scottish historian and award-winning filmmaker, trained at Oxford University in Persian and Sanskrit, with research experience across South and Central Asia. He is the co-founder of Project Dastaan, an international peace-building initiative reconnecting families displaced by the 1947 Partition of India. His debut book, Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia, was an international bestseller and named a Best Book of 2025 by multiple leading publications.

These groups provide an opportunity for support from others who hold similar identities or life experiences. Participation is open and drop-in style, meaning members do not have to be current clients of the Student Counseling Center, and you may attend meetings as often or as seldom as you like. Support groups are open to all UTD students, and no group screening is required. Please note support groups are not the same as therapy groups in that they are more focused on building community and peer support guided by one of our therapists than in-depth therapeutic intervention.

We have multiple groups running through the semester in a wide variety of times and days!

Students: Are you ready to become part of a team and embark on epic adventures with your fellow students? Through S.T.A.R.S., we have created a safe, supportive space for students to explore new identities, share experiences and have fun together without any pressure or agenda. No, this isn’t a sneaky therapy session! It’s all about building community through fun.

Faculty and Staff: We’re seeking staff and faculty members who are interested in volunteering as Dungeon Masters to lead our game campaigns. No prior experience is required - just a passion for storytelling and a willingness to help create a fun and inclusive experience. The Student Counseling Center will provide all the training and orientation you need to lead the adventures!

Process groups are focused on the exploration and open processing and discussion of participants. Process groups are led by one of our therapists and typically more open-ended and less structured around a specific lesson or topic for the day. Clients are required to complete a group screening to assess whether the group matches their needs and interest.

For process groups, if you are not a current or recent client, please make an appointment to get started and note your interest in group therapy. You’ll complete intake paperwork and have a 30-minute “IC” (individual consultation) with one of our therapists, and then get scheduled for a brief screening meeting with the group’s leader.

SPARK Femmes is a supportive and nonjudgmental meeting place for woman/femmes who are questioning or struggling with the ways they engage with sex and/or pornography. This group will hold space for students to process their concerns, define healthy sex for themselves, and build tools to help navigate distress. Whether this is an issue that’s recently come up or is something you have navigated for a long time, this group can help meet you where you are.

Biology is more than genes, pharmaceuticals, and natural selection. Before any of these, biology is historical, modeled by where, when, and how it is written, bearing the legible marks of a cultural moment like rings on a tree or plaque on a tooth. Every quality of biology is thus situated in time and circumstance. Genes function properly inside of cells; drugs are profit engines for pharmaceutical companies; and natural selection is one circle of selective activity among others operating within earth’s atmosphere. So, life is almost always coupled to other life. It is symbiotic. Symbiogenesis is the leading theory of evolution, which is based on symbiotic cooperation between microbes occurring millions of years ago, as mitochondria and chloroplasts, organelles essential to the metabolism of animal and plant cells, bear the DNA of once free-ranging microbes.

Organic Worlds: Symbiogenesis in Art is an exhibition of art about biology understood from the perspective of context, collaboration, and coupling. It focuses on biological symbiosis in the artwork of Amy Youngs and Ken Rinaldo, setting in relief the significant role non-scientists play in writing biology. Exhibition artworks include two-dimensional works and time-based media that involve sound, touch, smell, immersion, amplification, and magnification.

Ken Rinaldo is internationally recognized for interactive AI bio-robotic art installations. He creates hybrid ecologies that integrate humans, machines, plants, animals, and more-than-human others, exploring idealized social and biological symbioses. Amy M. Youngs creates eco art, interactive sculptures, and digital media works that explore entanglements between technology, plants, and animals. Her interdisciplinary research involves empathy, relationships with non-humans, ecosystem construction, and seeing through the eyes of machines.
