Join us for an informative presentation on Monday, July 15 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the NSERL Seminar Room (3.204) where Dr. Juan Pascual will discuss Experimental Augmentation of Neural Performance.

In this talk, Dr. Pascual will discuss how most treatments for neurological disease, including the majority of drugs, inhibit or suppress excessive biological activity. Few enhance or stimulate a normally occurring function. Inhibition or suppression is associated with adverse repercussions due to the extensive and often poorly understood ramifications of most inhibited mechanisms. In contrast, the augmentation of natural activities seems to be better tolerated. An overview of the exploitation of such mechanisms for therapeutic benefit will be provided. This includes from epileptogenesis to motor performance. Studies in rodents and, when applicable, human individuals, will be presented.

Dr. Juan Pascual is the Chief of the Division of Child Neurology and Professor of Pediatrics, Neurology and Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He specializes in genetic and metabolic diseases of the nervous and neuromuscular systems in infants, children, and adults, with an emphasis on complex disorders.
