DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Aerosol is a system of tiny liquid or solid particles
uniformly distributed in a finely divided state through a gas\, usually a
ir. Aerosol particles suspended in the gas could be dust\, mists\, or fume
s\, and are often less than 100 mm in diameter if it is spherical. The ph
ysical and chemical properties of aerosol particles and the interactions b
etween the particle and the gas medium determine the dynamics\, kinetics\,
and transport of aerosol particles in the gas. In this talk\, I will brie
fly introduce several aerosol measurement technologies\, designed by mecha
nical engineers\, and used to characterize aerosol particles including imp
actors\, and the differential mobility analyzer (DMA). I will also share c
ommon aerosol control techniques to enhance engineering control for indoor
air quality such as filtration and electrostatic precipitator. Finally\,
I will share the current state of aerosol transport in human lung systems
from different engineering approaches including computational fluid-partic
le dynamic (CFPD) modeling.\n\nBiography: Hui Ouyang is an Assistant Profe
ssor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. O
uyang earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota at Twin-cities (Ae
rosol Science and Technology) and her MS from the University of Akron (Mic
roelectromechanical systems (MEMS) lab) and her BS (Fluid Machinery) from
Xi’an Jiaotong University. She is the recipient of the Doctoral disserta
tion Fellowship award in 2014 at UMN. She has taught both ME undergraduate
and graduate courses. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Tea
ching Award in 2019 at UTD. Her research is in the field of aerosol scienc
e and technology with a focus on aerosol dynamics\, measurements\, and con
trol. Her current areas of interest include aerosol measurements/control a
nd aerosol transport in health-related systems including the human lung fo
r disease control (bioaerosol) and for drug delivery (treatment).
