Session 1: Character Design
ATEC Animation summer camps are for those who are curious about creating cartoon or video game characters. Campers will learn the basics behind drawing their favorite characters or they can dream up one of their own! They will meet fellow artists and learn from ATEC faculty who are leaders in the animation industry. Each camp session lasts one week.
Session 1: July 11-15, 2022, Basic Character Design
Session 2: July 18-22, 2022, Basic Character Animation
Camp Time: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Age Group: 9-12 years of age
Camp Location: Camp is held in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology building (ATC) at The University of Texas at Dallas (see campus map). Free parking passes will be provided for parents to drop off and pick up their campers during camp time.
Overview
Session 1: Basic Character Design
Students ages 9-12 will learn the basics of character design from industry-experienced ATEC Animation & Games faculty. Students will explore design principles like shape, scale, and contrast and will apply these principles to simple characters we design throughout the week. No previous drawing experience or skill is required.
Session 2: Basic Character Animation
Students ages 9-12 will learn the basics of character animation, such as timing, anticipation, and squash & stretch, from industry-experienced ATEC Animation & Games faculty. Students will explore animation through cut-out animation, flipbooks, and traditional 2D drawing. No previous drawing experience or skill is required.
