DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk with Dartmouth Professor of German and Compa
 rative Literature Dr. Irene Kacandes\, whose influential work in the publi
 c humanities bridges disciplines and advocates the importance of the human
 ities to all fields. In this era of suspicion and name-calling\, there is 
 much talk circulating that an education in a humanities field is a waste o
 f money precisely because the graduate won't be able to get a job and earn
  a living. This logic is based on incorrect facts. \n\nKacandes's talk off
 ers a different narrative about humanities field graduates and the humanit
 ies in the public sphere.  Kacandes shares her experiences with a conversa
 tion series she curated called "Humanities for Humans\," and cites other e
 xamples of efforts to bring more understanding to the general public about
  what the humanities offer to address the world's most pressing problems. 
 \n\nThis talk will be followed by a Q&A and reception.
