DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Pamela Rollins\nProfessor\nSchool of Behavioral an
 d Brain Sciences – Department of Speech\, Language\, and Hearing\nThe Un
iversity of Texas at Dallas\n\nTitle: Migraine: The Mysterious and Most C
ommon Neurological Disorder\n\nAbstract: Social communication emerges from
early\, coordinated interactions between children and caregivers. Grounde
d in Tomasello’s theory of shared intentionality\, this talk investigate
s mutual gaze and social responsiveness as foundational building blocks fo
r social communication and language in young autistic children. Over the p
ast decade\, a program of randomized controlled trials has evaluated a par
ent-mediated early autism intervention targeting these social processes. F
indings show meaningful\, transferable gains in social communication and e
xpressive language across culturally and linguistically diverse families.
Emerging AI-based measurement tools enable more precise\, ecologically val
id assessment of mutual gaze and will be described in relation to both res
earch and clinical practice. Together\, these efforts position early socia
l interaction as a foundation for communication development and offer guid
ance for developmentally and culturally informed interventions.\n\nDon't m
iss this chance to hear from a leading mind in the field — and walk away
with fresh perspectives to fuel your own work.\n\nThis talk will be held
in-person at the Polykarp Kusch Auditorium FN 2.102 and streamed live via
MS Teams.\n\nJoin on MS Teams | See more BBS events
