Free EventChessFest welcomes all casual and avid chess players and ethusiasts! Numerous activities, talks, chess tables and plus Grandmaster challenges make up this fun annual event.
Dr. Daaim Shabazz, founder of The Chess Drum and Associate Professor of Global Business and Marketing at Florida A&M University, is the 2025 University of Texas at Dallas Chess Educator of the Year. He will be recognized at an award ceremony during the Chess Educator Banquet on February 25 at the McDermott Suite of the McDermott Library.
Shabazz will discuss “Chess Education Through a Digital Lens” as education of the chess public is increasingly conducted through online platforms.
Shabazz holds a bachelor’s in computer science from Chicago State University, an MBA and a PhD in International Affairs & Development, both from Clark Atlanta.
