A great first day of class sparks curiosity and motivation. But what happens three weeks later when that “first day glow” fades? If you’ve noticed lower attendance, decreased engagement, or other behaviors that make teaching extra challenging, this office hours will provide strategies and discussion to hopefully avoid that mid-semester slump. We will discuss starting strong on day 1 and how course policies and practices can help students stay accountable and active participants in their learning. Register for calendar invitation.
All faculty, staff, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers are welcome. CTL Virtual Office Hours are held from 4-5pm on the first Thursday of each month.
Participating in this session may fulfill part of the requirements for the Graduate Teaching Certificate and Postdoctoral Teaching Certificate programs.
CTL policy prohibits use of AI tools or bots for notetaking or recording during online sessions. Session recordings will be posted in the CTL Teaching Resources course (view “current courses”) and in the Graduate Teaching Certificate organization in eLearning when those locations are ready.
