From funding to innovation, let the Office of Research be your guide!
Join the Office of Research as they launch a riveting book study covering the harm and controversies human beings face both historically and today in the name of research. As we read and discuss The Immortal Life of Henrietta lacks by Rebecca Skloot, we'll cover racism, vulnerable populations, research ethics, patent rights, and so much more.
The IRB Book club will meet every Thursday from 4-5 PM from September 17th-November 19th.
Chapters & Content to be covered over the ten week period:
September 17 - Chapters 1-4: Consent to Participate in Research
September 24 - Chapters 5-8: Gender and Race Equality, Ethical Considerations
October 1 - Chapters 9-12: Segregation, Benevolent Deception, and Coercion
October 8 - Chapters 13-16: Benefits of Research, Publication and Authorship
October 15 - Chapters 17-20: Protecting Vulnerable Populations, Public Trust
October 22 - Chapters 21-24: HIPAA
October 29 - Chapters 25-28: Patent Law, Fiduciary & Financial Interests
November 5 - Chapters 29-32: Trust and Reporting your Research
November 12 - Chapters 33-35: Certificates of Confidentiality
November 19 - Chapters 36-38: Ethical Challenges and Considerations Moving Forward
Advance registration is required and will close at 2 hours prior to the event start time on the event date.
Upon completing the Eventbrite form for each individual event date, registrants will receive a confirmation email immediately with links to add the webinar to an online calendar of choice. Instructions for HOW TO JOIN the online event will be emailed to registrants 2 hours prior to the event start time on the event date.
