Free EventColleagues and former students present works in honor of Enric Madriguera and his impact on the study of the guitar at UT Dallas, in the DFW area, and worldwide.
Dr. Madriguera served as adjunct faculty of music at the University of Texas at Dallas from 1996 to 2006 before becoming the inaugural Russell Cleveland Professor in Guitar Studies in October 2009, thanks to an endowed gift from Russell Cleveland. He shared his artistry, enthusiasm, and deep well of knowledge across the U.S., Latin America, China, Vietnam, and Japan and led annual trips for colleagues and students to study and perform across Spain. He also co-founded the Texas Guitar Competition and Festival, which has been held at UT Dallas since 2001. Dr. Madriguera earned his master’s degree in humanities in 1984 and his Ph.D. in humanities in 1993, both from the University of Texas at Dallas. A two-time Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Madriguera performed around the globe. In 1994, Enric met Sabine Rabe (1970 – 2012) at a guitar festival in the Czech Republic. In 1996, they formed the Duo Madriguera shortly after getting married. Together, they toured and performed extensively, all the while maintaining rigorous teaching schedules.
Dr. Madriguera was a celebrated performer and recording artist as a soloist, with Sabine Madriguera, and with many ensembles. His recordings include Old World/New World (Encore), Guitars of the Americas (Documentary Arts), New Music Ensemble Voices of Change: Voces Americanas, A Tribute to Eduardo Mata, Frida: Concert Suite by Robert Xavier Rodriguez (CRI), Voz y Guitarra with soprano Kathryn Evans, and his most recent recording, Remembranzas De Mi Guitarra (Albany).
