CTL Workshop
The Rock and the Hard Place: Academic Integrity and Conflicting Student Motivations
Dr. Karen Huxtable, Director, Center for Teaching and Learning
Students compromise their learning for many reasons, among them a sense of desperation, belief that the GPA and diploma are all that matter, and failure to appreciate the value of course requirements to their personal and professional goals. Such factors may seem primarily outside of faculty control, but aspects of course design can offset the impact of these conflicting motivations. Join us for an overview of relevant research and instructor choices that can promote students’ deeper learning, willingness to take risks, and purposeful engagement. With attention to mindset, metacognition, and memory, we can create a culture of learning with integrity.
Participation in this workshop fulfills part of the requirements of the Graduate Teaching Certificates.
