Theatre UTD and UTDance Ensemble announce auditions for First Date

Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 6:00pm to 10:00pm

Auditions: in JO 1.216 (The Rehearsal Hall) on September 1 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Callbacks: September 2, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Audition requirements: All singer/actors must prepare 32 bars from a Broadway musical and provide sheet music with music clearly marked. Must bring two copies if you are using music for audition for an accompanist. Perform a Comic monologue if you have one prepared. You may also be given a short monologue from the musical as a cold reading.

Performance dates: Performances will be October 28-30; and November 4-6.
(Strike on November 7 is required for ALL cast and crew and they MUST attend.)

Synopsis: When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron's inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?

Aaron – strong role for leading man type
Casey – strong role for leading lady type
Waiter – character role and Casey’s father, Blaze, Twitter, Therapist
Man #1 – Gabe, YouTube, Edgy British Guy
Woman #1 – Grandma Ida, Lauren, Facebook, Female with Megaphone #2, Aaron’s Mother
Man #2 – Reggie, Aaron’s Future Son, Instagram, Edgy Rocker Guy
Woman #2 – Allison, Google Girl, Female with Megaphone #1

If cast, actor/singers have the opportunity to enroll in THEA 3310 Theatre Performance/Ensemble, credit for this class is given based on satisfactory performance in rehearsals and performances of the musical.

Dancers who are interested in speaking roles in the musical MUST attend these auditions as well.

For those interested in only being a part of the UTDance Ensemble, please attend the Dance Auditions at 1 p.m. on Friday September 3rd. Contact Micki Saba at msaba@utdallas.edu for further information on dancers needed for the musical.
