Title: Exploring the Connection Between Brain Health and Mental Health
Speaker: Sarah Laane
PhD Student, UT Dallas
Sarah Laane holds a bachelor’s degree from Miami University where she studied speech-language pathology and psychology, and a master’s degree in the Science of Communication Disorders from UT Dallas. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Speech, language, and Hearing Sciences at UT Dallas. She joined the Chapman Lab at the Center for BrainHealth in 2019 and is united in its mission to unlock human potential by translating scientific discoveries into usable strategies to increase brain health and performance. Her current work focuses on identifying how frontal lobe engaging strategies to improve brain health and cognitive performance in both the general population and for vulnerable populations including justice-involved youth, those with mental illness history or symptomology, and those from underserved communities. This work involves the use of telehealth intervention delivery and a novel BrainHealth Index to provide a holistic measure of brain health including areas of daily-life function, social interaction, and well-being.
