Reframing Texas Art: Women Photographers in the Lone Star State

This workshop will explore the exclusionary nature of scholarship in relation to Texas women photographers stemming from various traditions in both art history and Texas history. From this analysis, a new methodological approach will be formulated that takes into account these artist’s gender, geography and medium, allowing for further analysis of these artist’s practice.

A reception will be held outside at the UT Dallas Alumni Center following the lecture.

 

BIO

Jessica Brit Ingle is a curator, writer, and art entrepreneur focusing on Texas art. She has worked nearly fifteen years in various arenas throughout the Texas art scene, including major museums, galleries, and private collections. She is also currently a PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Dallas, specializing in Modern and Contemporary American art, with a particular emphasis on Texas art, photography, and feminism. She has presented at major institutions such as the Dallas Museum of Art and the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art, and has curated exhibitions in institutional, university, corporate, and gallery spaces. She is currently working on a dissertation that surveys female Texas photographers, with the goal of publishing her research as part of a four-book series.
